Tara first realized she was interested in hair at a young age. She would get her hair cut and feel an overall happiness from how good she looked when she left the salon. It wasn’t until she began getting her hair cut at Onyx by Tanya that she really thought about making it her career. No matter what she needed or wanted done to her hair, Tanya could do it. Even when other salons couldn’t achieve the look Tara wanted, Tanya could. It was the first salon where she really felt like she could ask for anything and get exactly what she wanted. Never realizing there was a school there she looked at other cosmetology schools for a while but nothing really seemed right. Then a couple of girls she knew were going to hair school at Onyx. She knew she didn’t want to work anywhere but there. So, she went for an interview, and was accepted. Everything from that point on played out perfectly and now she’s exactly where she wanted to be in life.

  1. What is your favorite thing about doing hair?
My favorite thing about doing hair is the end result! I love how great people feel when they’re hair turns out exactly the way they wanted it. Everyone is always so happy and appreciative. The way they look at themselves in the mirror and play with their hair for a while makes me realize that I’m doing a good job.
  2. What Hair care products could you not live without?
I have four products I simply could not live without. The first is wired, it is the foundation of my hair, it helps smooth and shape my hair during the blow dry. The second and third are shocked and undressed, I use them as finishing products together to give my hair the shine, separation and texture my hair needs to look wild. And the last thing is w8less, my hairspray, it’s humidity resistant so it keeps my hair from frizzing up and it holds my hair together all day long.
  3. What would you say your best strength is as a hair dresser?
I always strive to give clients exactly what they want, and what would look best on them. I would never want anyone to leave unhappy with their hair. I always take into consideration their lifestyle and their personal style to find something that works just for them. I think it’s best to customize everything for each individual.
  4. What is your favorite thing about working with the Onyx design team?
My favorite two things would be how well everyone really works together & gets along like a family, and how willing everyone is to help & teach each other new things. No one ever leaves any question unanswered.
  5. How would you say Onyx is different from other Salons?
Honestly, the biggest thing that I think that sets us apart is how upbeat and trendy the salon is and our diversity. We may all have dramatic urban hairstyles, and know how to create those styles on any client who is interested… but that’s not all we do…. Everyone is very talented & highly educated and can create classic conservative styles as well. There are no limits, anything is possible.
