Gabby Kidd

Gabby has always been driven to invest her education and time into doing something creative and artsy. After considering going to art school she realized the struggles she would cross finding success as a painter. After starting Virginia Western Community College, she came across the opportunity to attend Onyx Premiere Hair Institute. Not having to think very hard about the decision, she knew it was something she could not pass up. She found out quickly that the skill was very natural to her. She worked hard and has grown quickly as a designer and become part of the Onyx Design Team. Gabby loves feeling like hair is a hobby rather than a job. The connection and communication with the clients keeps her excited! She cannot wait to pursue her education in Rusk. Gabby feels that there is still so much for her to learn but already so much she can give!

What is your favorite thing about being a hair designer?
My favorite thing about being a hair designer is the connection with the clients. I love really listening to their wants and needs and trying to accomplish that goal for them. When someone has a vision and I am able to create that style, I feel very rewarded. Along with giving the client the exact style they desire I also love the personal connection that goes along with it. I enjoy getting to know each person and their interests and them getting to know me as well.

What Hair care products could you not live without?
Rusk mousse because it gives awesome volume and control, which is what many clients are looking for. It's a light product that’s super versatile.

What would you say your best strength is as a hair designer?
Really listening to a client and taking everything they say into consideration and using my creativity when someone gives me the chance to do what I personally think would look the best. I feel confident in making decisions and putting my own personal touch into every client’s desired style.

What is your favorite thing about working with the Onyx design team?
The connection we all share in wanting each other to succeed. We all help and feed off of each other. We are like a second family that not just anyone can jump into.

How would you say Onyx is different from other Salons?
We are well educated in everything from our techniques we execute to the products we use. We also share a unique desire for each other to gain higher ground as designers. Everyone is strongly motivated to learn new material and further their skills.
